DATE Spring 2019, Spring 2021 / 1st year Project Redesigned in 3rd Year
An exterior redesign of a ladies’ electric shaver done during my 1st year, with form refinements and a CMF redesign done in my 3rd year.
Inspired by modern bathrooms with natural elements and geometric succulent terrariums
I wanted to create a shaver that would look good sitting out in these bathrooms without disrupting the modern aesthetic. The geometric terrariums inspired the form of my shaver.
Exploring various forms with sketching
I explored different combinations of shaver heads and bodies to look into what might look and feel the best. I also explored some potential colorways and textures.
Using mock-ups to refine the form
As I made mock-ups, I considered the two main positions users hold their shavers—upright and down— and refined the form to accommodate both positions.

Physical appearance model
I modeled my final design using workshop tools and modulan. I then finished it by sanding, spray painting, and adding a gold trim and the original shaver blades.
Redesigning my redesign
In Spring 2021, we were assigned with redesigning the CMF and considering the manufacturing process of a previous project. I decided to revisit my shaver from my first year and work on not only the CMF, but also the overall form to better fit my inspirations and current design aesthetic.
Inspired by trending CMF and modern bathrooms
Now taking my inspiration from more than just bathrooms, I looked at design trends in other areas such as cosmetics and ceramics to implement into my shaver. Current design trends also include more simple shapes, so I took that into consideration for the form refinement of my shaver.
Exploring a sleeker form to better fit my inspiration
To refine the form to better fit my inspirations, I wanted the design to flow better and considered removing the deep angles between the blade head and the body. I stayed true to the tapered, rectangular blade head and the shape of the body while connecting the parts of the shaver in a smoother way.
Redesigning the CMF and Details
I chose recycled ABS plastic as the main material the shaver would be made from. Recycled ABS is still recyclable and maintains the same high durability, quality, and customizability of ABS plastic. This is a more eco-friendly option for a long-term use electric shaver that would need to be durable. The injection molding process using the ABS would also be ideal for the 3-section form of my redesigned shaver. I also explored some potential colors.
Daun Electric Shaver
Ladies’ shavers that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally effective. It would fit any bathroom, including modern bathrooms, without disrupting the aesthetic. It would also accommodate any position the shaver would be held while in use.
Muted Color Scheme
I created this color scheme of muted tones that I felt would fit well with the aesthetic and environments I was going for with Daun.
